History

When Prince Borivoj founded and fortified a settlement here the castle dates back to the 9th century. A Romanian palace was built during the 12th century, and then during the 14th century IV. During the reign of Charles, it was rebuilt in Gothic style. The last reconstruction of the royal palace was carried out under Jagiellonian rule at the end of the 15th century. It was then that the famous Vladislav Hall was built in the late Gothic style (1497–1500, builder Bejikt Rejt). The castle was enlarged in the 16th century after a great fire in 1541. The Spanish hall in the new part of the castle was built during the reign of Rudolf 11, and its final shape was later built in the 19th century. It was designed by Empress Maria Theresa (1743 – 1780) according to the plans of Empress M. Picasso, an architect.  The interior and gardens of the castle were redesigned by architect J. Plecnik after the First World War.

Prague Castle is at the top of the hill, you can’t miss it. The easiest way to get there is from Old Town Square on Charles Bridge. On the side of a small town, you need to know which direction to go. The easiest and smartest way to reach Prague Castle is to pass St. Nicholas Church on Nerudova Street to reach the main gate of Prague Castle in the first courtyard. The second road leads from Charles Bridge to the Malostranská tram stop to the Old Castle stairs. The bad idea in this is to go up … and there are many steps. Especially in summer, it is not pleasant. More importantly, the Prague Castle Complex has the smallest gates and usually has two police officers for security checks. So the inspection takes a long time. Therefore, I suggest and prefer to go from the other side, HradÄŤanskĂ© Square. He also passes the ticket office at Prague Castle and can enter the four interiors immediately. You don’t have to worry about getting to Prague Castle, Prague’s Supreme Local Guide will take you on several tours: Prague Castle Tour, All-Inclusive Day, or Grand City Tour by car.
