Starting from June, travelers can buy rail tickets for €9 resulting in increasing the train travel by 42% according to the German Federal Statistical Office(Destatis). The official revealed, “In June 2022, movements in rail transport across Germany were an average 42 percent higher than in June 2019. In May 2022, they had been by three percent higher than in May 2019”.

In a special mobile data network evaluation performed by Destatis, it is revealed that the study has been done on trains covering distances of 30 km or more. The same study also revealed that the railway has become the top choice among travelers in Germany.

The same shows that, when compared to the same month in 2019, the train was the mode of transportation that saw the biggest gain in June 2022. Contrarily, the sector that fell down the most quickly was intra-German air transport, which by the end of the month had decreased by 49%.

On June 1, Germany made the €9 ticket available to all passengers traveling in second class. The program will be in place until August 31 while the ticket is only good for one calendar month.

The ticket can be purchased using a mobile phone and is valid for use in all German public transportation systems on any local or regional route and for an unlimited number of travels. However, the ticket is not usable on long-distance buses or trains.

The extra money paid over the euro 9 tickets threshold for these three summer months by people with annual tickets has been returned.

The national railroad company of Germany, Deutsche Bahn AG, advises motorcyclists not to ride their bicycles to well-known tourist locations between the hours of 9 and 11 am and 2 and 5 pm on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays due to the increased demand for travel.
