Good news for pet owners, soon an airline will start allowing pets in cabin and cargo hold. From November 1, Akasa Air will allow pets weighing up to 7 kg in the cabin and cargo hold.
The following are the things that you need to keep in your mind before bringing your pets on the flight.
- Each animal would need its own cage or pet carrier.
- The maximum weight should be 7 kg, including the cage or carrier.
- Weight restriction for check-in is 32 kg, which includes the cage or carrier.
- Checking in for larger animals (32–100 kg) must be done at the cargo terminal.
Currently, only Air India has given this special privilege to pet owners to bring only up to pets that weigh 5kg and below. Akasa Air airline has announced a piece of very important news for all the pet parents who want to bring their pets on the flight. Akasa Air has introduced guidelines that every passenger has to abide by to take their pets on the flight.
Pets are not permitted on flights with certain other airlines, including AirAsia, Vistara, SpiceJet, and IndiGo, with the exception of support animals for those with disabilities.
This is a positive step because pet owners frequently face difficulties while trying to transport their animals. The only modes of transportation that currently allow dogs are by road, train, and Air India’s extremely restricted alternatives.
The airlines added that they will do this under the supervision of an appropriate NGO. The airline will share its knowledge of the entire process.
