Synopsis: According to the reports, common people and Indian Army personnel currently use Balipara-Chariduar Road to reach Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh whenever the Sela pass route gets affected due to excessive snowfall.
Those who have been waiting to visit Tawang in the winter but have been unable to do so because of road blockages due to excessive snowfall will now be able to plan their travel soon. The construction of the Sela Pass tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh will soon provide direct connectivity to Tawang. Also, Arunachal Pradesh got its first airport this year on Independence Day which will make travel much more convenient for all.
According to the latest travel news reports, the Border Roads Organization in Arunachal Pradesh is doing everything they can do at their end to construct this road at an altitude of 13,000 feet. Regardless of the weather, this road will provide our Indian Army with direct access to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) near Tawang on the China border.
If everything goes according to the plan, the construction of the tunnel work is expected to get finished by the end of July 2023
Presently, people and Indian Army soldiers have to take the Balipara-Chariduar Road to reach Tawang when the Sela pass route gets affected due to excessive snowfall in winter.
According to sources, the Sela Pass tunnel will connect Baisakhi and Nuranang by avoiding the current road. The Sela Pass and the West Kameng district, which are separated by a ridge called the Sela-Charbela, are connected by a tunnel called the Sela Tunnel.
When the tunnel is finished, it will permit efficient vehicle traffic for the advantage of both travellers and Army personnel. Furthermore, once the tunnel is completed, the journey will be cut by approximately 8 to 9 miles.
