There is no doubt that Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport is the most popular airport in India. Millions of people come and go from IGI airport every year, making it one of the busiest airports in the world. But its reputation is getting better and better as it moves up the list and is now the 10th busiest airport.

OAG, an air travel intelligence company based in the UK, just released a report saying that Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi is the 10th busiest airport in the world.

In the study, the well-known aviation analytics company OAG found that Delhi Airport has surpassed other popular airports on the list to become the 10th busiest airport.

Prior to the pandemic, Delhi Airport was ranked 14th in the world in October 2019.

The OAG ranks are based on how much-scheduled airlines have added to their capacity this month compared to the same month last year, before the flu outbreak. So, the top 10 busiest airports in the world are ranked by how many people use them for both domestic and international traveling.

According to its data, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport was the world’s busiest airport in October 2022, with Dubai and Tokyo Haneda Airports coming in second and third, respectively.

According to OAG’s latest report, four airports—Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Istanbul, and Delhi—have improved their positions in the rankings since October 2019.

The OAG study also ranks Los Angeles International Airport as the ninth-best airport in the world, with Chicago O’Hare International Airport coming in at number seven, and London Heathrow Airport at number six.

Data shows that Dubai International Airport, followed by Amsterdam Airport and London Heathrow Airport, is the world’s busiest international airport.

In contrast, no Indian airports feature in the top 10 list of the world’s busiest international airports.

OAG also found that flights from Delhi to Dubai and Mumbai to Dubai are two of the world’s busiest routes. Most scheduled seats will be sold on the following routes between October 2021 and September 2022.

Two Indian routes are in the top 10: Mumbai–Dubai (BOM–DXB) and Delhi–Dubai (DEL–DXB). This shows that India is benefiting from the growth of air travel around the world.
