3. Clock Tower

Eerily resembling the Big Ben of London, the Clock Tower stands in the center of Mahe, representing the Franco-English history of the island. Built-in the UK and shipped to Seychelles, this beautiful monument in Seychelles was commissioned by the then governor of Seychelles- Sir Ernest Bickham Sweet-Escott in memory of Queen Victoria. Construction of the tower began in 1903, and the landmark turned 115 years old in 2018. Known locally in Creole as Lorloz, serves as the centerpiece of Victoria. 5. L’Union Estate & Copra Factory

The plantation house that is the central attraction has a rich history and was built in a French colonial style complete with a thatched roof. The estate is also home to the Old Plantation House and other colonial-era artifacts, including a boatyard and a graveyard. Comprising three pairs of curved white wings and positioned at the junction of Independence Avenue and 5th June Avenue, the Bicentennial Monument was erected in 1978 and represents the bringing together of the European, African and Asian heritage that makes up the islands of Seychelles, as well as symbolizing the indigenous population of birds – the island’s earliest inhabitants.

7. Mission Lodge

Mission Lodge is one of the most significant landmarks in Seychelles. The viewing spot and the adjoining ruins have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site due to its significant contribution to the eradication of slavery in the region. It has also been declared a National Monument since 1984 due to its significant contribution to educating freed slave children in the 17th century. This effort by the missionaries eventually led to important contributions of the freed African slave-children who formed an important part in the formation of the Creole Seychellois community of today.

You can see the mountains covered in lush greenery and the blue sea encompassing the island once you reach this 405 meters high vantage point located in its southern part. 8. St. Paul’s Cathedral

St. Paul’s Cathedral replaced the original church which stood on this site and was destroyed during a particularly dramatic cyclone in the mid-19th century. After mounting maintenance costs and structural problems, it was decided to completely rebuild and remodel the cathedral in 2001, with work being completed in 2004 and marked with a large consecration ceremony. 11. Praslin National Park

The Praslin National Park is on the Praslin Island, known as the second-largest island of Seychelles. The national park has been a constant here since its opening in 1979. Kaz Zanana is an art gallery in Victoria housed in a traditional Creole building containing paintings of celebrated Seychellois painter George Camille.
