Synopsis: As per the reports, at least 26 sites in six states have already been selected to start the operations. Not only the holy river Ganga but many other river banks are selected to create such eco-friendly hubs under the mega project ‘Arth Ganga’ of the National Mission of Clean Ganga (NMCG).
According to the report, an ambitious ‘Clean Ganga’ project is going to get further development. The Central Government has permitted to growth of 75 eco-friendly hubs alongside the River Ganga and other major rivers in India.
This project is undertaken by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and the decision is taken to promote green and sustainable tourism for overseas and domestic travelers in India. Turkey is the first country to start such an initiative to promote sustainable tourism.
The government is selecting some specific sites to develop eco-hubs which include village tours, biodiversity watches, river walks, jungle safaris, homestays, and many others.
As per the reports, 26 such river fronts have already been selected to start the operations. Major River banks like Ganga, Gomti, Chambal, Hoogly, and Yamuna are selected to create such eco-friendly hubs under the mega project ‘Arth Ganga’ of the National Mission of Clean Ganga (NMCG). The government is trying to make these sites one of the best places for tourism in India in summer and winter.
The Director General of the National Mission of Clean Ganga (NMCG), G Ashok Kumar stated that this initiative comes under Arth Ganga concept which was commenced by Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. In order to assure the sustainability of NMCG’s efforts to revitalize the Ganga and its tributaries, this project will connect river people through economic bridges, and Jalaj is one of its six recognized verticals – livelihood-generating. According to reports, Jalaj is founded on the “circular economy” paradigm, which encourages community members to support biodiversity preservation, a clean river ecosystem, and sustainable living habits.
