The airline reported that over 800 flights were canceled on Friday owing to the walkout at its two busiest hubs, Frankfurt and Munich. It stated that more than 100,000 travelers would be impacted.
According to Lufthansa, it had proposed a one-time raise of 900 euros ($900), which would have amounted to an 18% raise for new pilots and a 5% raise for older pilots. People from all over the world travel to Germany especially in summer to celebrate summer festivals.
In order to resume regular flight operations as quickly as possible, Lufthansa is exerting all of its efforts. A good, balanced offer was given during negotiations, according to Michael Niggemann, the human resources executive board member of Lufthansa, and the strike will disrupt thousands of passengers.
Vereinigung Cockpit (VC), the pilots’ organization, has requested a 5.5 percent hike this year and an automatic boost over inflation in 2023.
In addition, the airline said that the new pay and holiday structure requested by the pilots would push up employment expenses by 40%, or $900 million over two years. In Germany, where strong unions have historically ensured that workers enjoy favorable working conditions, strikes are a typical strategy in labor conflicts.
