1. Buyeo Seodong Lotus Festival
The Buyeo Seodong Lotus Festival is held in Gungnamji, the country’s first artificial lake. Visitors can see many varieties of lotus flowers, including red and white lotuses as well as fairy lilies. At night, the lake is lit by LED lights and statues. The most popular event of the festival is a performance on the love story of Prince Seodong (childhood name of King Muwang) and Princess Seonhwa. 2. Boryeong Mud Festival
Of all the Korean festivals, this is one of the Korean summer festivals that attracts the most international visitors. The first festival was in 1998 when cosmetics companies used Boryeongs mud in their cosmetic products because the mud is full of minerals. The Boryeong Mud Festival was created to promote these cosmetic products. At the festival, visitors can swim, mud slip or mud wrestle in a huge mud bath. After sunset, the party and fireworks begin.

3. Tongyeong Great Battle of Hansan Festival
The great battle of the Hansan Festival in Tongyeong is commemorated by the patriotism of Admiral Yi Sun-sin (1545-1598), who led his people to victory during the Imjin War (1592-1598). The best summer festival in South Korea offers a parade of Yi Sun-sin and relaxation of Hansan’s great battle, as well as ocean sports and hands-on experiences such as geobuksseon (making iron-clad turtle models built by Admiral Yi during the Imjin War) and arrows.

4. Pohang Fireworks Festival
The Pohang Fireworks Festival is held annually on Yeongilbae Beach, with the steel company POSTEC in the background. The main event of the festival is fireworks, in which international teams take part. Other events include a light parade, water gun survival games, performances, hot air ballooning, and a squid & beer party.

During the one-week Gyeongju Cherry Blossom Festival, performances and small markets are held throughout the city. 6. Goyang Spring Flower Festival
The Goyang Flower Festival is Korea’s largest and most important international flower exhibition. It takes place every year in Ilsan, a city near Seoul. More than 300 companies and organizations from all over the world come together to present their flower sculptures and products made using flowers. The top summer festival in South Korea has a number of indoor and outdoor areas, including exhibitions of unique and rare plants, flower sculptures, flower experiences, various performance stages and other cultural events.
