German airlines have retaliated against a proposal by the Federal Parliament to reimpose the requirement that passengers wear masks when flying beginning in October. Germany has uplifted almost all Covid-19 restrictions in order to boost tourism

The decision to make FFP2 masks mandatory on flights that are either taking off from or landing in Germany was deemed “unreasonable” and out of step with current international standards by the Board of Airline Representatives in Germany (BARIG), which represents more than 100 national and international airlines. People from all over the world visit Germany’s best places to enjoy beaches, eat delicious delectables, visit famous monuments, enjoy Christmas, and so on.

Michael Hoppe, the secretary general of BARIG, stated in a statement on Thursday that there is no epidemiological support for such a move. We request that the German Federal Parliament and Federal Council amend the proposed legislation.

German airports no longer require the use of masks, and in May the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) released a recommendation to do away with the requirement to wear masks when flying.

Hoppe claimed that an unjustifiably rigorous regulation would “put the country’s aviation traffic at a severe disadvantage in international competition.”

Lufthansa, a German airline, has also angrily rejected the proposal and demanded modifications in the ensuing parliamentary procedure.
