Travel Agency

The easiest way to get to Christ the Redeemer is with a travel agency and depending on where you are staying in Rio, they pick you up at the hotel. I like this option because you optimize your days in Rio! There are a lot of companies in Rio, so it’s possible to get great prices! Just be careful not to hire illegal agencies that might spoil your trip. I recommend you to always look at the comments on TripAdvisor and Facebook.S2RIO for example, besides having excellent reviews on Tripadvisor and Facebook, gave us a special discount (R$20,00 per person) to a lot of different tours, including Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf! You just need to talk to them on WhatsApp and inform the discount voucher or click here and talk directly to them on WhatsApp

2. By Train

By Train

The train is the most traditional route to get to Christ the Redeemer and, in my opinion, it has the most beautiful view! The train leaves from Cosme Velho, a calm neighborhood of Rio that is not so easy to reach, as it doesn’t have a subway station. The closest subway station is Largo do Machado. If you like walking, from the subway station until the entrance of the train you will take about 40min. Of course, it’s also possible to take a Taxi or Uber to go to the train entrance. If you are staying in the South Zone of Rio (Copacabana / Ipanema / Leblon / Botafogo) it won’t cost you more than R$40,00

If you want to enjoy Rio using public transportation, it’s possible to take a bus to the entrance of the train station.

  • From Leblon, Copacabana, Ipanema and Botafogo: Bus “Circular 1”
  • From Center, Lapa and GlĂłria: Bus “Troncal 8”

How much does the train cost? R$82,00 (high season) and R$67,00 (low season)

You can buy the tickets at the train station, online, or at one of the 3 sales points (only in cash): Rio Sul Shopping Center kiosk, Copacabana beach Rio Tur kiosk and Largo do Machado kiosk. As the train is limited, we recommend you to book before, unless its low season and the city is empty

Train Timing: From 8 AM to 9 PM

3. By Van

By Van

Another very popular route to get to Christ the redeemer is by van! This is my favorite option! Although you don’t get the experience and the view of the train – you will probably save a lot of time as the vans leave from places close to the subway. Another advantage of the van is the price: it’s cheaper than the train! You can take the van from 3 different points: Largo do Machado (at the square just outside the subway station), Lido Square (in Copacabana – close to Cardeal Arco Verde Subway Station), and Barra da Tijuca (Citta America Shopping Center). Many people who are staying in Copacabana ask us how to get to Christ the redeemer from Copacabana. This is, for sure, the easiest way to get there.

The prices to get a van to reach Christ the Redeemer:

  • From Copacabana: R$64,00 (low season) ou R$79,00 (high season).
  • From Largo do Machado: R$64,00 (low season) ou R$79,00 (high season).
  • From Barra da Tijuca (inside Cita AmĂ©rica shopping center): R$93,00 (low season) ou R$108,00 (high season).

You can buy the tickets online or in the place where it leaves the christ. During the high season the lines are huge, so better to guarantee and buy your tickets online!

By Hiking a Trail in Tijuca Forest

The trail begins at Parque Lage next to the Botanical Garden. It’s not an easy walk, taking approximately 3 hours to get up!  For those who are in good shape, like adventure and nature I recommend it!!! But preferably go in large groups or hire a guide (no one wants to get lost in the middle of the forest in Rio de Janeiro – and it’s also safer.)

How to get to Parque Lage by metro: When buying the ticket ask for a “metrô na superfície”. On the subway, get off at the Botafogo station and follow the signs “Metrô na Superfície”. The “metrô na superfície” is a bus that will take you to the entrance of Parque L

5. By Car or Bike

By Car or Bike

For those who come to Rio by car or rent a car here, there is a 4th option! This was the option that I used when my parents came to visit me in Rio by car. Even though you can’t get to the entrance of Christ driving, you can get to the parking lot in Paineiras. For those who feel up to it, you can walk on the road and the entrance is cheaper!

The price of the entrance and van: Van from Paineiras to Corcovado (with entrance included) R$31,00 (low season) and R$46,00 (high season).

Best Time of Day For Visiting the Christ the Redeemer

In general, choosing the right time can significantly affect your experience, but unfortunately, it is difficult to predict how many people plan to visit Christ the Savior on the chosen day. It is usually better to visit the statue on weekdays rather than on weekends when many local people visit this iconic landmark.Be prepared that Christ the Redeemer, along with Iguazu Falls, is one of the most visited places in Brazil, so don’t expect to receive it for yourself. Rather, prepare mentally for the second opportunity to miss your personal area for a while. To avoid the crowds, it is recommended to visit Mount Corcovado early in the morning, say around 8:30 or later in the afternoon after 15:30.
