The foundation of Umaid Bhawan was first laid on November 18, 1929, by Maharaja Umaid Singh However, the construction work was completed in 1943, and the King could enjoy his creation only for four years and die in 1947.

After Maharaja Umaid Singh, his successor Hanwant Singh took over the empire and served for a few years before he died tragically at the young age of 28 in 1952 in a plane crash.
